Meet the Board Member: Col Devitt, National Secretary

I’m Col Devitt of Mold & Buckley 399 and I am now in my 3rd and final year as RTBI

National Secretary. Prior to this I’d been the Secretary for the Regional Reps, and

after taking on some tasks for the previous National Secretary, it seemed a natural

step to apply for the role when it came available, especially alongside they other

guys joining the board that year, who were so full of enthusiasm and energy to

modernize Round Table.

I’m a chef by trade, and in early 2020 moved into contract catering, leaving me with the unheard-of luxury of evenings and weekends free. This coupled with lockdown left me looking for something to help fill my free time, which led to me joining Deeside 602 that Summer. It soon became clear that there were enough of us living locally to recharter Mold & Buckley, which we did in March 2021.

Over the 5 years we’ve been back, I’ve been blown away by

the impact we’ve had locally, growing one sleigh night into 11, starting 2 Santa dashes, and holding god knows how many BBQs and Hog Roasts along the way!

My first year as National Secretary saw a lot changes to the corporate structure of

RTBI, with both the lease of Marchesi House and our shift to becoming a cooperative

society. MoOves which will both strengthen and protect the future of the association.

Second year, I will admit was taken up a lot by NSW! As you may know, this wasn’t

the simple event originally planned, thanks to a company going bankrupt, but despite

the best efforts of Shrewsbury Prison, it’s still an event I’m immensely proud of! This

year I’m looking to update and modernise all our policies, simplifying them and

making them suitable for the future of the organization.

Outside of Table, I’m a keen baker, and you may have heard I run the odd marathon….

I’ve an incredibly understanding wife, Elen at home as well as three girls, Seren, Catrin and Eleri, who have their own myriad of clubs and activities to attend, keeping me busy dropping them off!

I’ve had incredible experiences I never thought I’d get from joining Round Table, and just saying Yes!!!!
