Barry Round Table are set to host a knock-out special guest on the last night of their Santa sleigh collections.
Tuesday 22nd December will see IBF World Featherweight champion Lee Selby join the guys on their Santa sleigh as it makes its way around Barry.
Selby, who boasts an impressive professional boxing record, will complete the Santa sleigh routes which collect for local charities.
Joining Lee is brother Andrew, also a professional boxer who hails from Barry.
Commenting on the exciting news, Andrew Rosser, Chairman of Barry Round Table said: “Lee’s a much loved local hero and we think he’s a great running mate for Santa – not sure we’ll be able to keep up with him, but we’ll do our best! We think local residents might be in for a bit of a surprise when they open the door to him though – in a nice way of course!”
After a tough but successful battle in Arizona to win the IBF World Featherweight title in October, Lee has been busy continuing his training in addition to carrying out official promotional boxing activities. On carrying out elf duties alongside Santa, Lee said: “I couldn’t help but agree to come and give the lads a hand on their final night out. The sleigh is a fantastic local tradition and the community love it! These guys pound the streets in all conditions and for miles each night they’re out – great exercise of course, but it’s the smiles and Christmas cheer they bring to local children and the resulting funds raised that’s so impressive. I’m really looking forward to joining in.”
Rosser concludes: “We’re just a group of ordinary guys doing extraordinary things with huge passion and drive to make a difference locally. Having Lee join us for our final night out really is the icing on the Christmas cake. We’d like to also take this opportunity to thank all of the residents we’ve met so far this year for being so welcoming and supportive.”
