Kenilworth Round Table crack the 1 million fundraising mark!

2016 saw Kenilworth Round Table (KRT) enjoy one of its most successful years in their history! Highlights of the year, which saw the guys crack the £1 million mark since the organisation was founded 52 years ago, included being awarded a Worthies Trophy for best organisation of the year in Kenilworth in May, The Kenilworth Carnival and the Towns 750th Anniversary event of the siege of the castle!

In November, the KRT Firework display was placed number 3 in the UK for best display to visit! The mild evening weather generated enormous crowds for the event, which saw record breaking funds raised. Donations this year alone, of nearly £40,000, have been spread across numerous causes, most recently to the UHCW (University Hospital Coventry Walsgrave) breast cancer unit for £10,000. Also, a further donation of continued support was made to Warwick Hospital via Baby Lifeline for £7,200. More locally the Kenilworth Centre (£5,000) and Kenilworth Gangshow (£2,000) have benefitted from the support of KRT.

No sooner had the flames from the Bonfire event died out, the members of KRT were back out hitting the streets of Kenilworth with their much loved and anticipated Annual Santa’s Sleigh tour of Kenilworth, with their trusted vehicle Rudolph very kindly loaned to them once again by Listers Honda of Coventry. KRT attended both Town light switch on’s and visited every road in Kenilworth and Leek Wootton bringing festive cheers and collecting funds in the process helping the Table to hold the annual Senior Citizens party in Kenilworth!

We spoke to KRT Chairman, Martin Turner, about why he joined and the benefits of Round Table. “Having grown up in Kenilworth I already knew of the work that Round Table did, but it wasn’t until I joined myself, that I found out what a great organisation is was to be part off. As a new member, I gained new friends and a more active social circle. We do so many great events, and especially in terms of the Fireworks show, it gives me great pride that a group of just 22 men manage to hold such a spectacular event! It personally give me a feeling that I am helping and doing good in a community that I have grown up in.”

Aaron, one of the newest members of KRT, moved to Kenilworth with his wife 2 years ago and was looking to meet new people and help the local community. “Discovering there was a Round Table here I contacted them to join, as I knew that they were a charitable organisation with a great social element. It has been great to meet new people in the area with our own social events like karting, Frisbee golf and, my own organised event kickboxing! I look forward to the next few years with Round Table and helping Kenilworth wherever we can.”
