As a part of the Round Table Movement, you will be exposed to a diverse range of people, from all types of backgrounds, with a wide variety of skills. Broaden your horizons, and you’ll find yourself doing all sorts of things you wouldn’t normally experience.

Martin Hooton, a civil servant in City of London Round Table, explains how he has expanded his skills during the 10 years he has been a Tabler:

"I had the job of organising the aerial display for the Weymouth Round Table Carnival. Not only did I have to get a Civil Aviation Authority licence to be the air controller for the airspace above Weymouth Bay, sort out all the air safety paperwork and deal with booking and co-ordinating the military and civilian display teams, but I had the phone number for 10 of the Red Arrows in my mobile.

"My girlfriend thought this was fantastic!" 

Martin feels the sense of achievement, and the skills he has learned, are useful far beyond his Table work:

"Standing on the seafront during the displays with thousands of people watching, knowing I had put it together, was perhaps one of the most nerve-wracking and rewarding experiences of my life.

"It’s something I would never have done had it not been for Round Table, and an experience I have drawn upon ever since.

"It’s always a winner in job interviews, when responding to questions about out-of-work interests!"
