Chepstow Round Table, Cardiff Round Table and Pontypool Round Table recently teamed up to raise money for Michael Griffiths, a Newport resident who has from Muscular Dystrophy.
After Chepstow and District were sent a Facebook request to like a page called “New wheels for Mikey”, the three Tables banded together to help bring a dream to life.
After putting Michael’s mum in touch with Muscular Dystrophy UK to fund essential wheelchair modifications, the three groups pledged £1,700 which along with the £1,300 raised by the family could go towards the deposit for a modified vehicle to fit Michael’s new chair in. This gave Michael the mobility needed to not only get to school but to enjoy days out with the family.
As well as making a difference to this young man’s life, Mikey’s story has been the inspiration for the reinvigoration of Newport Round Table.
Kevin Jordan, a member of Chepstow Round Table, recognised the need for a Round Table in Newport and was further inspired to set one up after finding out that the old Newport Round Table that folded in 2014, had provided gifts for his Mum as a child when Kevin’s grandparents were going through a time of hardship.
Kevin is determined that Newport Round Table will return “To resurrect the Table that brought Christmas to my Mum and her brothers and sisters when they were children is surreal”
And Kevin is inviting young, enthusiastic men from the area who want to make a difference in the community to get involved with the revival of Newport Round Table.
Round Table is open to men aged 18-45 who want to do more in the community with a great bunch of mates. Sister group Ladies Circle is open to women aged 18-45.
