When the Calder Valley was struck by severe flooding last Christmas, the members Round Table Great Britain and Ireland donated a generous amount of money to the three Calderdale Tables in support of the relief effort. During the floods, Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team played a vital role in ensuring the safety of the whole community. On Saturday 30th of July, members of Elland, Halifax and Hebden Bridge Round Tables went to visit the team of volunteers following the donation of £2000 to fund the purchase of state-of-the-art waterproof radios. The team’s Training Officer, Howard Barton said, “We are all proud members of the local community, who know far too well the risk of flooding the region faces, and it is so important that we prepare well with the essential skills and correct personal protection equipment. This generous donation is gratefully received – Thank you.”
The visiting Table members were shown around the Search and Rescue facility before being taken to the banks of the River Calder to witness first hand some of the skills and equipment utilised by the rescue volunteers during the floods.
