It's just not cricket!

The build up to the sixth ICC World Twenty20 tournament is well underway, the tournament starts on March 8th, the squads have been announced and the warm-up games are right around the corner. So, who should selectors pick?

A new study published in the Journal of Statistical Compilation and Simulation has produced an optimal team ordering algorithm consisting based on team selection, batting order and overs bowled.

The optimised England line-up is based on data up to and including England’s most recent match against Pakistan and is as follows.

JM Vince

JE Root (3)

EJG Morgan*

AD Hales

JC Buttler

MM Ali

CR Woakes (4)

BA Stokes (3)

RJW Topley (2)

DJ Willey (4)

CJ Jordan (4)

The numbers in parentheses represent the number of overs bowled, the author of the report Tim B. Swartz suggests that this line-up should produce an additional 17 runs
