Howls of delight as Wolf Runners donate £1000 to Macmillan

Eight intrepid runners representing Knowle & Dorridge Round Table overcame ice-cold lakes, mud and obstacles to raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The octet of Ben Clark, Simon Grantham, Martin Guy, Kam Majevadia, Chris Rhodes, Gary Welsh, Lee McLaughlan and Heidi Menzies – who stepped in at the 11th hour for her husband Mark – took on the challenge of the Wolf Run, near Leamington, on Sunday April 12.
The course, which is 10km long, included a number of strength-sapping obstacles to test the team including climbing walls, crawling through tunnels and swimming across a lake in running gear.
Reflecting on the achievement of the team from Knowle & Dorridge Round Table was chairman Allan Bailey, who was behind the decision to donate to Macmillan.
He said: “Macmillan do a fantastic job at looking after our relatives and friends and I believe they deserve the money.
“I have a personal reason in that my niece died of terminal cancer at the age of 16 and Macmillan nurses were really brilliant at our family’s time of need.
“As a number of Tablers were running taking part in the Wolf Run I thought it would be a good way of making the donation as a sponsor. I wanted to take part but was injured in training so was grateful to the rest of the team taking part.”
Wolf Runner Martin Guy summed up the experience of his first Wolf Run: "It was a great challenge to complete with great friends and there were smiles all round throughout – except for possibly the swim across the lake.
“But we also did for a great cause. We all know people that have faced or are facing much greater challenges with cancer so the donation to support them was the real achievement."
More than 4,000 people took part on Sunday including other Round Tablers from Moseley, Solihull and Coventry.
