The 17th March has always been synonymous with drinking thanks largely to St Patricks Day. However, this year there is another all-important reason to knock back a few drinks, the annual Harrogate Beer Festival.
The event, organised by members of the Harrogate Round Table, takes place on the 16th,17th and 18th March at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate.
There will be plenty of live entertainment across the three-day event, including live music, Claro Sword Morris dancers and Six Nations rugby. Plus, over 100 different beers will be on offer across the festival, as well as ciders, wine and prosecco – a little something on offer for everyone.
We spoke to Harrogate Round Table member Carl Cowgill about the annual festival;
“For over 20 years our Table has bought this great event to the people of Harrogate. It’s so much more than just a beer festival. This is our town’s biggest community party”
“Come on down and see for yourself, it’s going to be a brilliant weekend”.
Back in 1990, members of the Table drove to Masham with the purpose of getting a couple of barrels of beer for a small gathering.
Now in its 27th year the event has grown in popularity moving from sports & social clubs to hotels and the Table members now work closely with two local breweries, Theakston’s and Daleside, to provide the people of Harrogate with a great beer festival every year.
All the money raised from the event goes to supporting several great causes and charities in the local area. In previous years, the event has helped the likes of Harrogate Special Care Baby Unit, Harrogate Homeless Project and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
