Great Dunmow Round Table Support Jasmine’s Olympic Dream

The GDRT have been supporting talented 12-year-old figure skater Jasmine Cressey towards her Olympic dream.

The Table first met Jasmine in September 2016, when her mother approached GDRT for funding to help send the talented youngster to Austria for specialist training with Yuri Bureiko, a renowned coach, rated within the top ten in the world.

GDRT saw the potential in the figure skater and donated £1,000 towards training costs.

Jon Worby, GDRT Chairman said “It’s always a pleasure to see Round Table helping people succeed; Jasmine is a determined and tenacious young lady and I can’t wait to follow her progress over the coming years”.

“We understand the level of commitment needed to succeed at that level and all of us want to support Jasmine in any way we can.”

Last week she attended a GDRT meeting to thank them for their help and update the Table on her story since September. The training in Austria gave her an amazing opportunity and developed her skills enormously, which had a massive effort on her confidence.

Jasmine has had phenomenal success in her competitions within the last year.

  • 1ST PLACE Lee Valley International (Novice B) with a personal best
  • 2ND PLACE Lee Valley International (Advanced Novice) level above usual
  • 1st PLACE  Oxford International (Novice B) with a personal best
  • 1st PLACE  Sheffield International (Novice B)
  • 1st PLACE  British Championships (Novice B) with a new personal best

Jasmine is a now the British champion for the Novice B category and is ranked number one in the country, as well as being ranked fifth in the country at the level above. An incredible achievement considering she is currently just 12 and the levels are for skaters up to the age of sixteen.

She now aims to compete at the Winter Olympics once she is old enough, but needs support to help with the costs.

Can you help Jasmine achieve her gold medal dream ?

Following a donation late last year, the Table are now appealing for more businesses and organisations to help support the costs of Jasmine’s training and competitions.

Jasmine is only eligible for a grant of up to £500 from the council for skating equipment, as many company sponsors will only support athletes over 16 and the national lottery funding only actually supports team events.

If you can support Jasmine in any way or know of either through application or sponsorship that may be available, then email chairman@greatdunmowroundtable.co.uk.
