Leicester De Monfort Round Table Hoping To Take Victory In Barcelona

920 Miles, 4 Tablers and 1 Old Banger

Imagine setting off from Calais through France, taking in the sights of the Alps, French Riviera and then down the coast on to Barcelona sounds like a good summer holiday doesn’t it?.

Jon Carlisle, Richard Adkinson, Ollie Walmsley and Charlie Weller of Leicester De Montfort Round Table will be doing exactly that but in a £200 banger and completing a number of challenges on their 920 mile journey. 

As you read, the lads will have already set off on their journey which will end in Barcelona on Sunday 23rd May. 

Ollie said: “With less than a week to go preparations are well underway, all the hotels and hostels are booked and we are all brushing up on our map reading skills.”

During the three day rally they will no doubt become very familiar with the inside of their Toyota Carina donated by Farmer Carlise Toyota which is in a rather fetching Maroon colour!

So who came up with this idea? Charlie said: “The idea originally came from talking to a friend of mine who mentioned the Rally 'Barcelona Bangers' during my 2nd year as the Community Service Liaison Officer for Leicester Demontford Round Table of which I am a member, I immediately checked out the web site and 30 minutes later I was on the phone to the guys in the Round Table with the idea of a road trip to Barcelona. Needless to say everyone jumped at the chance. So 6 months later we have a car, its MOT'd and about to be taxed and insured ready to go. All we do now is pray the car gets us there and of course back again!”

So far they have ammassed over £2,500 with the proceeds from the car sale also yet to be added at the end of the journey, which will be split between Mind, Parkinsons, Barnardos and Combat Stress.
